Reviews for Acer Aspire One D260, 10.1 "Netbook, Intel Atom N450, 1GB, 160GB, Windows 7 boot 32-bit, up to 4 hours battery life, Black (Electronics) I had originally planned to buy the Acer D250, have been highly impressed with my daughter, bought last year. However, after further reading, I opted instead for the new D260. The new Atom N450 it consumes much less than its predecessor and also has the advantage of Windows 7 to be installed, replacing the old Windows XP.

When it came I was surprised how ordered that the D260, being only 24 mm thick. Also impressive is the shell shiny gloss finish (mine is black). Of course, this does not attract fingerprints, but Acer includes cleaning cloth. And though they are less than the old D250, the keyboard is actually much larger and easier to use. What is great with the LED backlit LCD screen that offers true color during the day than traditional LCD screens that fluorescent backlighting. The screen, true black is very bright whites, and to be backlit with LEDs, which should ensure greater reliability, because the lights last for years compared with fluorescent backlight, which tends to fail from time to much.

If you read some reviews on the internet, you may be waiting to have the dual boot machine including Google Android operating system installed as an alternative. However, this option is only available in the United States. The British model is Windows only. But I did install Ubuntu Netbook mix free on the internet and operates beautifully on the small computer and a great alternative to Windows Quick, besides having the advantage of being immune to malware and viruses.

I also upgraded the memory by removing the 1GB ram and replacing it with 2GB. There is enough for most uses 1GB, but I always best remembered more as this reduces the wear on the hard drive, as well as to speed up things especially when using applications multiple. But I warn you not to install the new memory on the machine easy. But I hope to open a small flap on the car to get access, but to be a netbook, but I have had an award from the keyboard, ribbon cable office, 8 screws, then remove the bottom cover to access. So we can not recommend this option for those not technically minded. However, if you want to upgrade the memory, then you will find the instructions on YouTube.

A good overall performance. A cold start, start in Windows 7 a 7 seconds minutes, and Ubuntu will start in 55 seconds.

In the original write up is (and me again) that the netbook calimed maximum of 8 hors battery life is not the case now -. tell us that up to 4 hours (actually up to 3 hours if I'm lucky ..) and it is slow. The list shows the battery life of 4 hours because it is only 3 cell battery included. See other Amazon listings for the D260 with 6-cell battery for the much longer life . In addition, use the boot edition, Windows 7 the power of more than the Windows XP version, which also translates into less battery life. In fact, the starter pack of Windows 7 is very little going for it rather than being a relatively new operating system (battery life, more money, not change the background can not, play DVDs without an external DVD update software). On the positive side, Microsoft will be supported for much longer, only to have XP for a long time, it is expected that any bugs have been resolved by now.
I bought the D260 with Windows XP and a 6-cell battery and love the machine (and the excellent battery power) and would give it 5 stars. This list gets 3 stars because Windows 7 boot and is only 3 cell battery.
